Charlie Hensley

Charlie has served on City Council for a combined 10 years including his first two terms from 2007 to 2016 and later 2022 to the present. He also has served on the Oak Ridge Planning Commission for a total of 24 years since 1984. He has continually advocated for a Comprehensive Plan to guide the City’s growth and development and incorporates citizens’ input.

He is a retired mechanical engineer having worked in the DOE Contractor facilities including the former K-25 Enrichment Plant (9 years), the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (10 years), and the Oak Ridge Y-12 Plant(10 years). After retiring from the DOE facilities he worked for Oak Ridge Tool-Engineering for 9 years as design engineer and Engineering Manager.

Charlie’s formal education includes a Bachelor of Engineering Science from Marshall University in 1968, and specializing in stress analysis, structural engineering, thermodynamics, and engineering economy.

Charlie moved to Oak Ridge from West Virginia in 1968 and has sons, Matt, (ORHS-1997) who is a database administrator for TVA and lives with his wife Jennifer, and three young grandchildren (Von, Juliet, and Grey), and Brad (ORHS-2008), who is an aerospace engineer and lives with wife Erin in Longmont, CO.

Charlie has participated in many recreation opportunities in our beautiful city including competitive tennis (15 years), slow-pitch softball (55 consecutive years), and boating our many lakes. Charlie also is a long-time pilot from the Oliver Springs Airport where he serves as the Secretary for the Board of Directors.

As an active citizen and being retired allows Charlie to treat his roles in the City as his main responsibilities, he very much advocates for citizen involvement in our government and also seeks new ideas and consensus for moving our City forward.

Term Expires: November 2026
