City receives $19 million in funding for Oak Ridge Aiport project

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (Oct. 12, 2020) – Plans for an Oak Ridge Airport are moving forward.

On Oct. 7, the City of Oak Ridge received official notification by the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Aeronautics Economic Development Fund (AEDF) that the transfer of $19 million from the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority (MKAA) has been completed.

“As the sponsor, our work as a City will continue to now take the lead on moving forward,” Oak Ridge City Manager Mark Watson said.

These funds, supplemented with Appalachian Regional Commission funds, will be reserved for analysis, cost estimates, environmental assessments and preliminary design for the project.

The preliminary design will be presented to the Oak Ridge City Council in November.
