Oak Ridge Senior Center staff staying busy despite building closure

The Senior Center may be closed but there's still a lot going on!

Staff at the Senior Center have been calling their regularly attending folks since they closed to the public on March 16. They have also begun working through their entire database of people who have come into the senior center for any reason since 2016. They are doing this by age so they are calling their oldest and most-vulnerable citizens first.

Additionally, the Senior Center is working with the ETHRA (East Tennessee Human Resources Agency) Senior Nutrition Program to help provide meals to those who were using the congregate program but couldn't once the center closed.

ETHRA is now able to provide five frozen meals per person for a week. People can pick up their meals on Mondays as early as 9:30 a.m. Participants must be 60 years old or older and will need to fill out a short, 2-page form at their first pickup. To be added to the list, call the senior center at (865) 425-3999 by noon the Friday before their desired Monday pickup.

The program is free but donations are accepted, and needed, to help keep it operating.

Senior Center staff are still answering phones from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday in case they may know of someone that is in need of assistance that senior center staff doesn’t have a number for.
