8th Rowing Lane Dedication to be Held April 28

April 27, 2017

NOTE: The Dogwood Juniors Regatta originally scheduled for April 29-30 has been cancelled due to excess rainfall that created unsafe conditions on the course. The cancellation does not affect the City's dedication event outlined below. Contact the Oak Ridge Rowing Association for additional information. View the previous dedication announcement here.

The City of Oak Ridge will welcome state and local leaders on Friday, April 28, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. for a special dedication of the new 8th rowing lane on Melton Hill Lake.

Oak Ridge Mayor Warren Gooch will kick off the ceremony at the new 8th lane overlook along Melton Lake Greenway. After brief remarks from state and local leaders thanking those who worked so hard to make this project happen, there will be a ribbon cutting for the 8th lane.

The 8th rowing lane was made possible by partnerships and financial contributions from the State of Tennessee, City of Oak Ridge, TVA, Oak Ridge Rowing Association, Visit Knoxville, Explore Oak Ridge, and the Oak Ridge Economic Development Initiative. Rowing has an estimated economic impact of more than $2 million per year for the Oak Ridge area.

Those expected to be in attendance include: Lt. Gov. Randy McNally, State Sen. Ken Yager, State Rep. John Ragan, State Rep. Kent Calfee, City Manager Mark Watson, Oak Ridge Rowing Association President Jack Hay, and additional partners.
