NOTICE OF ONGOING SEWER LINE INSPECTIONS
September 2, 2016
The City of Oak Ridge Public Works Department continues to utilize state-of-the-art technology to perform inspections of the City’s sewer system.
Testing is ongoing, but will concentrate on the following areas: south of Vanderbilt Drive and west of Illinois Avenue, including Burnham Woods subdivision and the Scarboro community. Residents will notice signage posted on main roads stating “Acoustic Sewer Inspection in Area” while crews are working in their neighborhoods.
This technology employs a sonar machine that emits a repeating series of tones similar to a musical scale. The tones emitted by the machine, while harmless, are low enough in frequency that nearby residents may be able to hear or feel them in some instances.
The work schedule for this project will depend on weather conditions and other factors throughout the rest of the month of September.
Any questions about the sewer line inspections can be directed to the Public Works Department. You can contact them by phone at (865) 425-1875 or by email at PubWorksDis@OakRidgeTN.gov.
