Fire Chief Darryl Kerley announced today the selection of Travis Solomon to fill the Fire Marshal position for the City of Oak Ridge Fire Department. Mr. Solomon is coming to Oak Ridge from the Tennessee Fire Marshal’s office where he served as the Deputy State Fire Marshal in charge of Fire and Life Safety codes for the buildings and facilities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the past thirteen years.
Fire Marshal Solomon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, and he brings 17 years of experience in fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the position, serving with the New Market Fire Department. He is currently a Captain with New Market and maintains their FireHouse software for records management and state incident reporting. Solomon also serves as a HazMat Instructor for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), a Tennessee certified Fire Instructor I and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector I.
“I am delighted to recommend this hire to our City Manager,” says Chief Kerley. “Solomon is a highly talented and energetic young man who will serve the City of Oak Ridge in a professional and enthusiastic manner. He brings a wealth of diverse knowledge and technical experience to the department from his position with the State Fire Marshal’s Office.” Solomon and his wife Nicole and daughter Brooke are looking to relocate to Oak Ridge before school starts this fall.
The Fire Marshal will oversee commercial building inspections, the public fire education program, fire department smoke alarm installation program and fire investigations. His appointment was effective Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at a salary of $63,315.20.
