The City of Oak Ridge Public Works Department has contracted S&W Contracting of Murfreesboro, TN to install a new traffic signal on Oak Ridge Turnpike at the entrance of Oak Ridge High School. The purpose of this signal is to improve safety for pedestrians crossing Oak Ridge Turnpike. The traffic signal will be available to assist pedestrians at any time they are present and will take the place of crossing guards. Pedestrians will be able to activate an all red function in order to safely cross Oak Ridge Turnpike. The signal will normally give preference to motorists on Oak Ridge Turnpike.

The traffic signal which has been operating in a temporary, flashing mode since the week of December 14th will be fully operational on December 30th.
