Beginning Monday, April 6, 2015, the City of Oak Ridge will be accepting applications for board members of the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) for the 2015-2016 school year.  The selection of the board members will take place at the July 13, 2015 City Council Meeting.

Sixteen applicants will be confirmed and appointed by City Council to serve a one-year term of office that commences on August 1, 2015.  To be considered, applicants must be residents of Oak Ridge and entering grade levels 8th through 12th. 

Participation on the YAB requires attendance at bi-monthly meetings on Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m., as well as at special events that are held throughout the year. 

All interested students are encouraged to fill out the on-line application on the City Clerk’s Departmental Website or at www.oakridgetn.gov/online/cityclerk/bcelections.  A limited number of paper copies of the application will be available in the Guidance Offices at Jefferson Middle School and Robertsville Middle School, the Student Affairs Office at Oak Ridge High School, and at the front desk of the Civic Center.  Please note that the availability of the on-line application and paper copies will begin April 6, 2015.

Applications and on-line submissions are due on Friday, May 22, 2015 by 5:00 p.m. to the City Clerk’s Office.  Late applications will not be considered.

The purpose of the YAB is to serve as a liaison between Council and the youth of the community on issues affecting youth. The Board's function is to encourage the positive growth and development of youth by involving them in social, cultural, recreational, and other drug- and alcohol-free activities.
