Cedar Hill Playground Closes May 2 to Begin Rebuild Project
Starting Monday, May 2, 2011, the Cedar Hill Park Playground will be closed to the public until the end of Community Build Week which concludes on Sunday, May 22.
This closure is important as it allows the Cedar Hill Playground Rebuild Project to transition into the next phase of the build. During the closing, the current playground structure will be removed to allow for the set-up of the new playground which will be built during Community Build Week, May 18 – 22.
In following with the City’s sustainability initiatives, the Recreation and Parks Departments has been working closely with the Friends of Haw Ridge to ensure that the current wooden structure is re-used to the community’s advantage. The wooden materials will be used at Haw Ridge Park and other Oak Ridge parks for various trail maintenance and construction projects.
“We appreciate the patience of the community, particularly the children, during the playground closing,” said Josh Collins, Recreation and Parks Department Director. “The wait will be well worth it as we begin prepping for the new playground build which will result in an even better community playground.”
For more information about the Cedar Hill Playground closing, please contact Jon Hetrick, Parks Supervisor, at (865) 425-1867.
Anyone interested in volunteering for the playground build is encouraged to sign-up on-line at
Cedar Hill Park
or at the Oak Ridge Civic Center. For questions about volunteering, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Athanasia Senecal Lewis at asenecal@oakridgetn.gov.
