Volunteer Opportunities

The City currently has the following volunteer opportunities.

Animal Shelter

Direct animal contact and non-animal contact volunteer opportunities are available. Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities, such as working the front desk, animal welfare education, feeding the animals, walking the animals, bathing the animals, fostering animals, and puppy socialization. To learn more about these opportunities, please stop by the Animal Shelter or call 865-425-3423. Volunteers must be 16 years of age or older.

Boards and Commissions

The City has a variety of boards and commissions which allows citizens to participate in their local government. If you are interested in serving on a City board or commission, please contact the City Clerk's Office at 865-425-3411. When a vacancy occurs on a board or commission, the City advertises the vacancy online on the Notice of Elections page.

Healthy Waters Program

The Healthy Waters Program is an outreach program within the Stormwater Management Division of the City of Oak Ridge Public Works Department. The program aims to educate the community on how to enhance the quality of our local waterways, address water quality issues in our city and enrich natural habitat in our urban area. This program hosts many events with the opportunity to volunteer throughout the year including 50K Tree Day, The Great American Cleanup and the Adopt-A-Stream program. Library

The Oak Ridge Public Library has volunteer opportunities for weekdays and evenings and weekends. Volunteers are needed for a variety of activities, such as shelving books, straightening shelves, helping process new materials, and assisting in the Oak Ridge Room.
