checking out materials

What materials are available for check out at the Library?
The Library has the following material available for checkout:

  • Books
  • Compact discs
  • Videos and DVDs (limit of 5 videos/DVDs per card)
  • College catalogs for Pellissippi State Community College, Roane State Community College  

We also provide the following materials and services (no card required):

  • Current magazines and newspapers  
  • Photocopy machines (10¢ per page)
  • Microfilm/microfiche readers/printers (10¢ per page for copies)
  • IRS tax forms
  • Oak Ridge Room - local history

How long can materials be checked out?

You can keep most material for 3 weeks and may renew an item one time. Items on reserve may not be renewed. Six week vacation loans may be available in special circumstances. Please ask at the Main Desk.  Beginning December 2, 2018, you can check out u
p to 5 videos/DVDs may be checked out free of charge and are due by 5:00pm on the seventh day after checkout.

Can Items be renewed?

Except for items on reserve, material may be renewed twice after the original checkout.  Items may also be renewed online

Where do I return materials?

All material should be returned to the main desk. For your convenience, you may also return items, except compact discs, to our outside drop box on the Oak Ridge Turnpike side of the building.
How much are overdue fines?

With the exception of video cassettes and DVDs, all overdue material is allowed a 2-day grace period and costs 15¢ per day up to a limit of $15 per item. 
Video and DVD fines are $2 per day up to a limit of $20 per item. There is no grace period for videos and DVDs.

How do I reserve materials checked out by another patron?

When you want material that is checked out you can place it on reserve. Placing a reserve puts your name on the waiting list for the material. Reserves are filled in the order in which they received.  Ask at the main desk for a reserve card or, if you prefer, you may
place a reserve online.

How do I get material not held by Oak Ridge Public Library?

If you want an item not found in the library catalog, y
ou can request that new material be purchased for the library collection. Older material may be borrowed from another library through interlibrary loan. There is a small fee to cover postage of interlibrary loan items.
