Motorcycle Crash at Intersection Sends Man to Hospital

On August 14, 2016, at approximately 6:55 a.m., Oak Ridge Police responded to the intersection of the Oak Ridge Turnpike and N. Illinois Avenue to investigate a crash involving a motorcycle and a City of Oak Ridge Electric Department Freightliner utility truck.

The driver of the motorcycle was treated at the scene by the Oak Ridge Fire Department and transported to Methodist Medical Center by Anderson County EMS. He was then flown by LifeStar helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. The motorcyclist was identified as 21 year old Brandon Wyrick of Clinton. The condition of Mr. Wyrick is unknown at this time.

The driver of the electric department truck was not injured. He was identified as 28 year old Stephen Hutton of Lenoir City.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol was called to the scene by the Oak Ridge Police Department to investigate the crash. The intersection remained closed and traffic was detoured for approximately four hours while THP troopers and officers investigated. The Oak Ridge Public Works Department assisted with lane closures and detours.

The investigation is ongoing. Any questions should be referred to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
