Fire Marshal, Travis Solomon

Fire Chief Darryl Kerley announced today that Travis Solomon, Fire Marshal for the City of Oak Ridge Fire Department, has received his professional designation as “Fire Marshal” through the Center for Public Safety Excellence.

The designation program is designed to recognize individuals who demonstrate excellence in seven measured components including: experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association memberships, community involvement and technical competencies.

Mr. Solomon came to Oak Ridge from the Tennessee Fire Marshals office where he served as the Deputy State Fire Marshal in charge of Fire and Life Safety codes for the buildings and facilities at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville for the past thirteen years.

Fire Marshal Solomon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, and he brings 17 years of experience in fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the position, serving with the New Market Fire Department. He is currently a Captain with New Market and maintains their FireHouse software for records management and state incident reporting. He also serves as a HazMat Instructor for the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), a Tennessee certified Fire Instructor I and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Fire Inspector I.

“We are delighted to have received this notification today as we continue to strive for excellence within the organization,” said Chief Kerley.

The Fire Marshal office oversees commercial building inspections, the public fire education program, fire department smoke alarm installation program and fire investigations.
