The Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department will host a Family Day at the Civic Center on February 23, 2013, noon to 4:00 pm. The public is invited to participate in this new event. Play games, meet the staff, tour the facilities and learn about new programs. Summer Camp and Swimming lesson information for 2013 will be available.
Admission to the event is free. Children under the age of 13 should be accompanied by an adult. Activities will be planned throughout the Civic Center. The game room will be open for pool, ping pong and foosball. Crafts, board games, movies and other activities are planned for the meeting rooms. Gym activities will include games, basketball, volleyball and a family Zumba experience. Hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks will be available for purchase.
A chili cook-off is planned as a part of the event. Those wishing to participate should call the Civic Center front desk to sign up.
Free swim assessments, to help determine the skill level of the child, will be conducted by the Aquatics staff. Please call 425-3450 to reserve a time slot for your child’s assessment. The instructor will work with your child for about 10 minutes and give the suggested level for the Recreation and Parks department swim lessons. Swim lesson registration will also be held during the event. Those who want their child to participate should bring swimsuit/towel and check in at the front desk during the event. If participants want to combine the assessment with public swim, they should check in at the front desk after 1 pm and purchase a ticket before entering the pool. Public swim is open to everyone and is scheduled at the indoor swimming pool from 1:15 – 3:45. Pool admission is as follows: Children 3-11/$2, Youth 12-17/$3, Adult $3.75, Senior Adults 65 and up $2. Children 2 and under free.VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Adult volunteers are needed to help with this event. Volunteers will help with set up, games, refreshments and crafts.
