The City of Oak Ridge will implement traffic control changes at the Oak Ridge Turnpike/South Illinois Avenue intersection. New traffic signals, pavement markings and traffic control signs will be installed to assist motorists with this change.
Motorists traveling eastbound on Oak Ridge Turnpike (SR 95) turning right onto South Illinois Avenue (State Route 62) will be required to stop on a traffic signal red display before turning right. After turning right motorists will not be permitted to use the short acceleration lane on South Illinois Avenue.
The traffic control change is necessary to provide improved pedestrian safety at the intersection. Motorists are urged to use caution traveling through the intersection.
Implementation will begin Thursday, October 11, 2012 but could be delayed due to inclement weather. The City appreciates the public’s patience with this traffic control change.
